Passed: Protection from Coercion for Florida’s Children (The “Shelley” Amendment)

IVBE member, Shelley Nelson, was instrumental in the writing and passage of this amendment which serves to protect school children from School-to-Work mandates which can result in limiting students’ potentials and future options.  It was attached to SB2050, Sec. 67 and reads as follows:

"Section  239.229 (7) No school board or public school shall require a student to participate in any school-to-work or job training program. A school board or school shall not require a student to meet occupational standards for grade level promotion or graduation unless the student is voluntarily enrolled in a job training program."
